ALCOVE LTD

Encor Studio (CH)

A long transparent shipping container that you can walk around and view from all angles: that is both the shape and content of ‘ALCOVE LTD.’ by Encor Studio. These Swiss artists use changing lights, shapes and materials to explore the concept of isolation and changing spaces. The 6-metre-long container has been transformed into a space with light tubes and white smoke to bring the interior to life before our eyes. An LCD screen is used to transform the glass walls, inviting us to enjoy an immersive experience where mirror effects blur the lines. In contemplating this immobile container, almost in communication with it, our perception of the environment steps off the beaten track.

David Houncheringer and his partners Mirko Eremita, Manuel Oberholzer and Valerio Spoletini founded Encor Studio in Switzerland in 2016. Houncheringer studied at the Vevey Art School (Vevey/Switzerland), majoring in Photography; Eremita was trained as a graphic designer at the La Chaux de Fond Art School (La Chaux de Fond/Switzerland); Oberholzer studied Music at the Fribourg Art School; and Spoletini completed the ECAL Art School Lausanne in New Media. The work of this multidisciplinary team is based on the essences of graphic art, fusing architecture, mathematics, photography, virtual reality, cartography, sound vibrations and lighting effects. Their leitmotif reveals itself in different ways in each of their projects. Their artworks are sensory experiences that explore our fascination with the technology that has taken over every facet of our lives. Besides regularly creating autonomous work and presenting it internationally, Encor Studio successfully collaborates with designers and haute couture.
