Georgie Brinkman (UK)

Cloudcuckooland is a research project on several stuffed extinct birds from the collection of the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre in Leiden. For her video installation, Georgie Brinkman uses puppetry and costumes to bring the birds back to life. This takes you into imaginary worlds where these birds may once have lived. With this work, Brinkman explores how we can use poetic imagination to create an afterlife for extinct animals.

The puppets were created under the supervision of Koomans Poppentheater, supported by the municipality of The Hague. The project is made possible by the Deep Futures Research Group of the lectorate Design of the KABK.

The work of artist and researcher Georgie Brinkman (b. 1992, UK) moves in the muddy sludge between science fiction and science fact: what does it mean to be human in an age of extinction? Brinkman recently graduated from MA Artistic Research at the KABK.
