“Mechanical Ballet” is a robotic installation that reveals the hidden soul of seemingly lifeless objects: a symphonic concert and mechanical ballet of motorized lights. Beams of light and sound appear in a captivating, dynamic and rhythmic crescendo. The motorized lights are stripped of their protective shells, and their “voices” are made audible with the use of high precision microphones. As the robot choir moves, both singly and as a chorus, it offers the audience a real “mechanical orchestra.” It is a symphony of detail, revealing the microscopic, the rhythmic mastery of chaos. The complex staging takes on a life of its own, freed from the need for human support.

Quiet Ensemble was founded in 2009 by Fabio di Salvo and Bernardo Vercelli. Their research concerns the balance between chaos and control, nature and technology. They search for subjects that combine those elements, shaped from the relationship between the organic and artificial. They often try to emphasize unimportant and beautiful elements, such as the movement of a fly, or the sound of light.
