Our biggest project of the year has come to an end. LUNA 2024 was a grand celebration of visuals, sounds, shapes, interaction, ideas, and many, many people – from Leeuwarden and beyond. Artists from the Netherlands and abroad came to Leeuwarden alongside a diverse and curious audience. Team LUNA, along with numerous partners and nearly two hundred temporary workers, specialists, and enthusiastic volunteers, worked tirelessly to make this edition a success.

With all the positive experiences, new connections, ideas, and invitations for new projects, we are now looking forward to “the rest of the year.” As funding always moves slower than our thoughts and ambitions, it’s currently a waiting game to see if planned projects can proceed. We’re crossing our fingers for projects involving local creators and international artists.

We can confirm that there will be a fantastic project in Sneek in the fall. Additionally, we can hint that WATER will play a significant role in a new project by our own LUNA Collective. Alongside our fellow art venues in the North, we are currently launching a new edition of the talent development program, Artist in Space, where young creators will be intensively coached for a year in developing their professional practices and creating new work.

And then there is, of course, LUNA 2025, for which preparations have already begun. Initial program outlines for LUNA Currents and LUNA Nights are underway. We’ve also started scouting for the Young Masters program. Do you want to be one of our new stars of 2025? Keep an eye on our social media and website for the open call! Soon, you’ll also find calls for several exciting projects and residencies abroad on our socials. In short, there’s still plenty to do in media art in the North in 2024. Spread the word!

For now, we wish everyone an inspiring and peaceful continuation of the art year and hope to see you soon somewhere where exciting things are happening with visuals, sounds, and inquisitive minds!
