Traces of Memory
Zeineb Kaabi (TUN)
The artwork consists of three overhead projectors on which broken glass and other found objects make interesting compositions. These compositions are projected onto the walls by the projectors. Zeineb Kaabi bases her compositions on the places where she exhibits, not only are the magnified projected objects local finds, she also works with a soundscape of locally recorded sounds that, like the broken glass, are magnified by becoming part of the work ‘Whispers of the Past’. The magnification is an exploration of human existence, where found objects carry memories and experiences. An overlay of holographic film adds an ethereal quality, blurring the boundaries between the tangible and intangible. It invites reflection on the ephemeral nature of memories. The installation interweaves personal stories with collective memory and invites viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of our shared human journey.
Zeineb Kaabi is an autonomous visual artist from Tunisia, specialising in painting, installations and design. She graduated in 2022 from the Higher Institue of social science in Tunis where she obtained her Undergraduate degree in social and cultural anthropology. Thanks to her background in anthropology, her work offers a unique perspective.
