Lost in the Digital Crowd

Zoya Taseva & Antreas Frangos (BG/CY)

“Lost in the Digital Crowd” is an interactive projection activated by touch that represents the abundance of information we all experience in the digital world. To represent addiction and the dopamine loop, the artist duo chose the image of a freezer full of ice creams. This cold treat produces a large amount of dopamine in our bodies, making us want to keep eating. This effect can also be found in our daily use of the internet. As soon as the visitor touches the projection, the freezer will melt away and create an opening at the touched spot. This effect symbolises our body moving from the physical to the digital world. We then see a freezer full of ice creams, but it is not long before onz eye catches the photomanipulations of the packaging. Some deal with serious themes, while others take a playful approach.

Groningen-based duo Antreas Frangos and Zoya Taseva explore the world of interactive digital art using their joint background in visual communication. Both artists graduated as graphic designers and met during the MADTech Masters programme at the Frank Mohr Academy. Experimenting with graphic design and media art, the duo soon discovered the importance of interactivity, an aspect that features in all their work. Interaction serves to form awareness around weighty topics with a playful and immersive approach.
